About Pediatric ENT

Children are not just small adults. Their ears, noses and throats are still growing, and problems here can affect hearing, speech, sleep, eating and learning. Common signs include repeated ear infections, pulling at the ears, not responding to sounds, delayed speech, a constantly blocked or runny nose, frequent sore throats, mouth breathing and snoring.

At Centosa, our ENT specialists provide gentle, child-friendly care from the newborn stage through the teenage years. We use hearing screening, nasal endoscopy and careful examination to find the cause, and we explain every step to parents. We then offer personalized treatment, from medicines and ear care to surgery for conditions such as enlarged tonsils or adenoids and glue ear, only when it is truly needed.

Healthy ears, nose and throat help your child hear, speak, sleep and grow with confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about your child's ear, nose and throat health.

When should I take my child to an ENT specialist?
Consider seeing a pediatric ENT specialist if your child has repeated ear infections, does not respond to sounds, has delayed or unclear speech, snores loudly or breathes through the mouth at night, or has frequent sore throats or a constantly blocked nose. Ear discharge, persistent ear pain and a swallowed or inserted foreign object also need attention. Seek care promptly if your child has difficulty breathing, high fever with severe ear pain, or a foreign object in the nose, ear or throat.
Why does my child get so many ear infections?
Children get more ear infections than adults because the tube connecting the middle ear to the back of the nose (the Eustachian tube) is shorter and more horizontal, so it drains poorly. Colds, allergies, enlarged adenoids, exposure to smoke and bottle-feeding while lying down can all add to the problem. If infections keep returning or fluid stays behind the eardrum, an ENT specialist can look for the cause and suggest treatment, which sometimes includes grommets (ear tubes).
How do I know if my child has a hearing problem?
Warning signs include not reacting to loud sounds, not turning towards your voice, asking for things to be repeated, turning the TV volume up high, delayed or unclear speech, and poor attention at school. Hearing loss can be present from birth or develop later, often due to fluid in the middle ear. Early testing matters because good hearing is essential for speech and learning. Hearing tests suited to your child's age can be done safely and comfortably.
Does my child need surgery for enlarged tonsils or adenoids?
Not always. Many children improve with medicines, allergy treatment and watchful monitoring, as tonsils and adenoids often shrink with age. Surgery is considered when they cause repeated infections, loud snoring with pauses in breathing, poor sleep, persistent ear fluid or hearing problems, or difficulty eating and breathing. Your ENT specialist will examine your child and advise whether surgery is truly needed.
How can I prepare my child for an ENT visit?
Explain the visit in simple, reassuring words and let your child know the doctor will only look at their ears, nose and throat. Bring any earlier reports or medicine details, and note down your child's symptoms, how long they have lasted, and any feeding, sleep or speech concerns. A comforting toy or favourite item can help. Our team uses gentle, child-friendly methods so that your child feels at ease.
